Why most "modern" websites age badly.

Why most "modern" websites age badly.

Trends date a website faster than content does. A short note on what to keep, what to drop, and how to design for the next five years instead of the next quarter.

Trends date a website faster than its content does. The bevels of 2010, the parallax of 2014, the gradient mesh of 2022 — each one a marker of the year, not the brand.

What ages well is structure: clear hierarchy, calm typography, fast loading, accessible markup. None of these things look dated, because none of them try to look new.

If you want a site that still feels right in five years, design for the message — not the moment. Then dress it lightly, with one or two confident details that mean something to your audience.

The hidden cost of cheap web builds.

The hidden cost of cheap web builds.

Templated builds feel cheap on day one and expensive every day after. A look at what gets paid later — in maintenance, lost trust, and rebuilds.

A €300 template build feels cheap on day one and expensive every day after. The cost shows up in things you don't see on the invoice: slow pages that lose visitors, fragile plugins that break on updates, code that no one wants to maintain.

A site is not a delivery — it is a relationship. The first version is the easy part. What matters is the next two years: how it scales, how it gets fixed, how it changes when your business changes.

Pay for the relationship, not just the launch. A clear scope, a fixed price, a developer who answers their email — that is what a good website actually costs.

Performance is a trust issue, not a tech one.

Performance is a trust issue, not a tech one.

Visitors don't read load times in seconds — they read them in feeling. Why a fast site signals competence before a single word is read.

Visitors don't read load times in seconds. They read them in feeling — fast feels confident, slow feels careless.

Every extra second is a quiet message: "we don't care enough to make this work for you." Performance is the first thing a visitor evaluates, before any design or copy.

Optimising performance is not a technical task done at the end. It is a design decision made at the start: fewer images, smaller fonts, less script, more thinking.

Building multilingual by default.

Building multilingual by default.

EN, IT, HU, NL, DE — each has different rhythms, different sentence lengths, different cultural cues. Notes on writing copy that survives translation.

EN, IT, HU, NL, DE — five languages with five different rhythms. German sentences are longer. Hungarian is agglutinative. Italian carries warmth English does not.

Writing copy that survives translation is a discipline. Short sentences. Concrete nouns. No clever wordplay. No idioms borrowed from American startups.

When the source text is calm and direct, the translations are too. When it is full of jargon and metaphors, the translations break. Multilingual quality starts in the first language.

WordPress doesn't have to look like WordPress.

WordPress doesn't have to look like WordPress.

WordPress powers almost half the internet, yet many websites built on it end up looking surprisingly similar. The problem isn't WordPress itself. It's how it's often used—and why a hybrid approach can sometimes be the better choice.

The screenshot above is a joke. Well... mostly.

No, I'm not claiming every WordPress website looks like this. In fact, there are many excellent designers building beautiful websites with WordPress every day. This article isn't about criticising WordPress. It's about explaining a misconception that many businesses have when they invest in a new website.

Many clients never actually know what's inside the website they've paid for. In a typical agency workflow, WordPress is installed first. A premium theme or page builder is added, a handful of plugins are installed, and then the design starts taking shape.
